What visitors are saying

“Great place to visit as soon as you pick up a rental car from Denver Airport. This was our first stop and it didn't disappoint! Bison were in the middle of crossing a road when we got to them and it was an amazing site! Bring free helped. Be sure to stop at the visitor center before hand, there is a little activity book for kids to do during the drive through the preservation and they can turn it in at the end to…”

“This is such an enjoyable way to spend some time. I come out here a few times a week and drive around the park. Always see the Bison, and we saw lots of baby bison this past calving season. Always see hawks and eagles, mule deer, white tail deer, coyote, song birds, prarie dogs, and even wild turkeys! Great location for bird watching. Lots of trails to enjoy.”

“Beautiful loop walk. Shade in patches but there's some stretches of bright sun; it might be too hot for Summer, but perfect for Fall and Spring! Lots of benches along the way, well maintained trails, negligible elevation changes. And since no dogs are allowed in the refuge, it was blessedly quiet on the trails!”

“This Is wonderful area to hike, bike or just a pleasant drive. There is a good size herd of bison that always makes the drive worth it. It has some Great Lake and pond areas that bring in lots of birds and wildlife.”

“Trail has great views. We saw a bunch of dear chilling around. This time of the year, the trail is very muddy. It was still fun to walk.”

— Ania C. · ★★★★★ · 2023-1-15

“Get your steps in. Lake Ladora and lake Mary (more like ponds) walking loops are great places for crisp views of Denver skyline and snow covered front range mountains from a prairie like setting. Lots of bird life and water fowl to be seen. Wide open views of the big sky. Best enjoyed in fall, winter, and spring.”

“Fun drive today. Curiosity prompted my drive. Helicopters practicing water pickups and drops. Continued the drive and saw this Big guy. He wasn't about to move for the cars.🥰”
