What visitors are saying

“Good skatepark! Definitely a lot larger in person - the pictures donu2019t do the size of the ramps and pipes justice. Helmet and pads are required and there is a $5 entrance fee. Only thing itu2019s missing is a flat rail!”

“Like many others have said, the skate park is not privately owned or good enough to justify the odd, limited hours, entry fee, and FULL pad restrictions (which is generally unheard of anywhere these days) unless they are saving up to build a bigger/better one. Even then, it would still be outdated and strange. The only pro is you are almost guaranteed to have the park to yourself but the con is you will have some ran”

— Joseph A. · ★★☆☆☆

“charging to skate a public skatepark? this completely defeats the purpose of having a skatepark in the community to begin with. this really could be a positive outlet for youth, it could bring people from all over to engage in an activity with a rich culture, it could be a wonderful addition to the city. instead it's being used as a revenue stream and is no fun for anybody. this gives the whole city a bad reputation ”

— D · ★☆☆☆☆

“It was a really good skate park but for a county park and having to pay. I just donu2019t think thatu2019s right for taxpayers to have to pay for a city Island Park. I feel as though with my taxes I pay for that park already. Another thing is you have to wear full patch. I can understand a helmet at least but kneepads elbow pads and helmet is just a little overboard. You sign a waiver going in there so I can see your helmet ”

— The F. · ★★★☆☆

“Pro -Nice Park Layout. That's it! Con- doesn't fricking open until 12:30. Ridiculous. Older people that actually pays taxes cant get to the park and skate a park we pay for with taxes and entry fees. Wouldn't mind paying entry fee if you let people in early before every lid in the city gets there and it to crowded to skate.”

— Rot S. · ★★☆☆☆

“Just got back into skating again, first time skating Grayson and fell in love! The park layout is amazing! Full pads are required, but not an issue for me as I prefer skating safe. Two thumbs up!!”

— Billy O. · ★★★★★

“The staff on site are incredibly rude and unprofessional. Requiring people to pay to use a u201cpublicu201d facility is beyond ridiculous. The city parks and rec department seems to view skateboarding and BMX as criminal. I have only seen a handful of facilities that operate in this manner and itu2019s laughable. Get with the times Mecklenburg County. You have an amazing facility that people should be able to enjoy whenever they”

— Matt S. · ★☆☆☆☆

“Unfortunately this awesome skate park is in a sketchy neighborhood. I was with my kids & when arriving back at my car, a homeless person would not stop verbally engaging with me. I rushed my kids into the car & the person circled my car, made it difficult to leave the park, and made me feel very unsafe. We will not be returning.”
