What visitors are saying

“This is the place to see Buffalo. When we first drove in they were far away, and I thought will never see them except through a camera. Then we turn to corner and there was a herd right in front of us! It was awesome! They are beautiful animals. We also saw deer and prairie dogs. The views of the canyon are spectacular. Well worth the trip”

“Caprock Canyons State Park is a total gem. Wide-open canyons, dramatic red rock, and a kind of quiet that makes you take a deeper breath without even trying. The trails are well-marked, and the hikes are gorgeous without feeling packed. What we loved most is how wild and “real” the park feels. Keep your eyes open and you’ll see plenty of wildlife. Sunrise and sunset are next-level out here, and the night sky is…”

“Absolutely stunning Texas State Park! My friends and I had so much fun camping, hiking, and just soaking it in. There is so much wildlife in the park, including bison, prairie dogs, and more. Just be sure to respect the wildlife and keep your distance. There are some legitimate moderate/challenging hikes in this park, which made for some beautiful views. There are some shorter, easier hikes that still offer good…”

“In case you’re wondering, yes! You will see buffalo! We thought how disappointing it would be to stay here and not see any of the herd but Caprock did not disappoint. A nice sized herd was waiting for us as we drove in the gate and we saw them daily from our campsite. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the hiking was excellent. The trails are well marked and hiking in the canyon area was beautiful. Hiking…”

“Fun place to explore. Enjoyed the 8 mi hike that was more challenging than i anticipated. I would consider camping here next time. The bison were friendly and the prairie dogs were fun to watch. Saw plenty of birds and heard coyotes howling at sunset. Had a little lake and I crossed a creek or 2 on the trail.”

“Great campground, I will be coming back. Scenery is beyond imagination, bison wandering around like a bunch of gangsters is by far the most amazing thing going on......caprock traffic jambs due to bison is just so funny, they really don't give a ____. Campsites are nice and have alot of trees for some natural separation between sites, love waking up to bison wandering around. My only complaint are from the amount of…”

“Absolutely delightful state park. Looks a lot like the red canyon country around Kanab, Utah. I would say I find Caprock Canyons prettier than Palo Duro Canyon. Absolutely worth a detour for Texans heading west. Hell, it's worth being a destination in and of itself.”
