Given the heavy rains over the last month I understand why that might be the case but our most recent visit, the day I posted this, it's still closed with no signs letting the public know when it will be open. I couldn't imagine growing up in the city. We had trails and mountains to climb, creeks to run through, trees to climb, horses, and even cows to ride!
