In 2022, Matt Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals was surprised by the minor-league schedule while playing for the Texas Rangers’ Triple A team. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sport introduced a new six-game series format for all levels of play.
Based on our experiences, when giving a young batter a chance in the major leagues, we need to be sure that they are adequately prepared to take a step back before moving forward, and that our major league team is capable of supporting them on that journey.

“If there is a larger gap than usual, my primary belief is that the advancement of scouting and planning has become more technologically advanced and focused,” stated Elias. “In the minors, there was only a small amount of this done with lower quality information and less intensity. Now, with 29 advance teams and pitchers able to execute these plans more effectively, the impact has greatly increased in recent years.”
