The Texans offer hope to struggling teams in the NFL. It may be imprudent to forecast potential breakout teams more than a month before the draft, especially in this unique year. Can players like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels have the same immediate impact as C.J. Stroud did in Houston? Which teams will attempt to maneuver their way into drafting a top quarterback? Despite this, with the hype of free agency dying down, we can now speculate on which teams may have a significant improvement in the upcoming 2024 season. Unfortunately, the Texans are not included in this list, as they are likely being added to another list: surprise contenders for the Super Bowl.
We would like to be honest about how accurate our predictions were for potential turnaround teams from last year’s column following the initial free agency period. Unfortunately, our predictions were not very successful. Did the Falcons, Saints, and Broncos have a turnaround season in 2023? The answer is no for all three. The Bears had some success, but not entirely. Our predictions for the Patriots and Jets were completely off. Surprisingly, we did not mention the Houston Texans, who had the most dramatic improvement in the league, going from a team with a bad reputation to making it to the playoffs in just one offseason. This serves as an example of the impact of a strong draft strategy and a skilled head coach.
