The rivalry between the Celtics and Heat spans back to the time when LeBron James and Dwyane Wade faced off against Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. In the current era, the matchup between Jayson Tatum and Jimmy Butler has been equally captivating, as the teams have faced each other in three of the last four Eastern Conference Finals. If they were to meet in the initial round, it would not be a simple task for either team.

My prediction for the Eastern Conference: The Celtics and Bucks will face challenging opponents in the first round.

According to NBA.com, the Thunder’s offensive and defensive ratings rank third and fifth, respectively, in the league, indicating their readiness for the playoffs.

Although they are not currently in a top-six position to secure a spot in the Play-In tournament, the Lakers can improve their chances by winning against the Pacers. This victory could also give them some momentum as the end of the season approaches.

  1. Denver Nuggets, 50-21
  2. The Oklahoma City Thunder have a record of 49 wins and 21 losses, trailing the top team by 0.5 games.

  3. The Minnesota Timberwolves have a record of 49 wins and 22 losses, trailing the top team by just 1 game.

  4. The Los Angeles Clippers have a record of 44 wins and 26 losses, 5.5 games behind the leader.

  5. The New Orleans Pelicans have a record of 44 wins and 27 losses, trailing the first place team by 6 games.

  6. The Phoenix Suns have a record of 42 wins and 29 losses, with an 8-game deficit to the leading team.

  7. The Sacramento Kings have a record of 41 wins and 29 losses, with a deficit of 8.5 games behind the leading team.
  8. The record for the Dallas Mavericks is 41-29, with a deficit of 8.5 games.

  9. The Los Angeles Lakers have a record of 39 wins and 32 losses, with a deficit of 11 games in relation to the first place team.

  10. The Golden State Warriors have a record of 36 wins and 34 losses, with a 13.5 games behind.

The Oklahoma Thunder is a relatively youthful team in the league and has minimal experience in the playoffs. Their most recent playoff appearance was in the 2019-20 season, where they were led by Chris Paul, Steven Adams, and the up-and-coming Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but unfortunately lost in the first round to the Houston Rockets.

  1. Boston Celtics, 57-14
  2. The Milwaukee Bucks have a record of 46 wins and 25 losses, with an 11 game deficit behind the leading team.

  3. The Cleveland Cavaliers have a record of 43 wins and 28 losses, with a 14 game deficit behind the top team.

  4. The New York Knicks have a record of 42 wins and 28 losses, with a gap of 14.5 games behind.

  5. The Orlando Magic have a record of 42 wins and 29 losses, 15 games behind the leading team.

  6. The Indiana Pacers have a record of 40 wins and 32 losses, trailing by 17.5 games.

  7. The Miami Heat have a record of 39 wins and 32 losses, with a deficit of 18 games behind the leading team.

  8. The Philadelphia 76ers have a record of 39 wins and 32 losses, trailing by 18 games behind the top team.

  9. The Chicago Bulls have a record of 34 wins and 37 losses, with a 23 game deficit from the top team.

  10. The Atlanta Hawks have a record of 31 wins and 39 losses, placing them 25.5 games behind the top team in their conference.

A potential matchup between the Bucks and 76ers could be just as thrilling as the Celtics facing off against the Heat. If Embiid returns before the playoffs as expected, the outcome of a series between Milwaukee and Philadelphia could decide which team advances to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Gilgeous-Alexander has been the model of consistency this season, going for 30+ points seemingly every night. Jalen Williams is a reliable second option and Chet Holmgren’s size and ability to space the floor make the Thunder a matchup nightmare.

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently without their MVP, Joel Embiid, and have dropped to eighth in the Eastern Conference standings. This means they will probably have to secure a spot in the playoffs through the Play-In tournament. The Miami Heat, currently holding the seventh spot in the East, are also likely to participate in the Play-In tournament.

After four seasons, Gilgeous-Alexander has become a contender for MVP and the Oklahoma City team boasts a strong lineup that has propelled them to one of the leading positions in the Western Conference as the season draws to a close.

Holmgren is a dominant presence on defense, utilizing his 7’1″ height to protect the paint and challenge shots near the basket. He boasts an impressive average of 2.4 blocks per game. The team also has strong perimeter defense, with Gilgeous-Alexander leading the league in steals with 2.1 per game. Williams and Dort also contribute on defense, with averages of 1.1 steals per game and Dort being recognized as one of the most tenacious perimeter defenders in the league.

Western Conference

The placement of teams in the Eastern conference could lead to compelling first-round matchups.

In any case, anticipate encountering prominent and intense matchups in the initial round this year.

Eastern Conference

There is a high likelihood that Oklahoma City will face a strong team such as the Lakers or Warriors. However, the Thunder will aim to demonstrate their worth as a top-ranked team in the West.

Both teams are expected to win their respective Play-In games, but they will face tougher challenges in the playoffs.

My prediction for the Western Conference: The Thunder successfully take care of business in the first round.

The Indiana Pacers were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers 150-145 on Sunday night, allowing the Lakers to maintain their position in the Western Conference standings.

Inverting the situation, with the 76ers earning the 8th seed and the Heat earning the 7th seed in the Play-In tournament, there would be similar levels of excitement. Embiid and Philadelphia would be seeking redemption after being eliminated from the playoffs by the Celtics last year, while Milwaukee would be looking to overcome their surprising loss to Miami in the previous first round.

Some experts believe that the Thunder, due to their age and inexperience, are vulnerable to being defeated by a Play-In team such as the Lakers, Warriors, or Mavericks. However, Oklahoma City may surprise people with their performance in the initial playoff round.

The Boston Celtics are close to securing the first place spot in the Eastern Conference and their chances are good unless they have a major setback towards the end of the season. The Milwaukee Bucks are most likely to secure the second place spot with a 53.8 percent chance, according to Basketball Reference.

After Sunday’s game, let’s take a look at the current playoff rankings for the Lakers and other teams.
