Former Tennis Star John Lloyd Calls for More Players Like Andre Agassi

In a recent report, former world number one Chris Evert’s ex-husband, John Lloyd, expressed his belief that the tennis world needs more players like Andre Agassi. Known for his clever on-court play and off-court activities such as socializing, Agassi was a true superstar in the sport.

Lloyd emphasized the impact of having players like Agassi, who not only won eight Grand Slam titles but also captured the attention of fans with his off-court persona. “We need superstars like Andre Agassi. He was regularly spotted with female celebrities,” Lloyd stated. “For me, it just elevates our sport to another level when we have superstars that even non-tennis fans admire. Agassi was a crossover star, known not only for his tennis prowess but also for his off-court activities.”

However, Lloyd acknowledged that finding players with Agassi’s charisma and success is not easy. He mentioned Nick Kyrgios as a potential example, but noted that Kyrgios has not achieved enough on the court to generate the same level of interest. “You’ve got to be a damn good player to do that; otherwise, people aren’t interested,” Lloyd explained.

When discussing current world number one Carlos Alcaraz, Lloyd expressed doubt about his potential to follow in Agassi’s footsteps. While acknowledging Alcaraz’s talent and predicting future tournament victories, Lloyd couldn’t envision him embracing the party scene like Agassi did. “Once his English gets better, which it will, he’s not afraid of the cameras. But I can’t really see him going out to nightclubs with young ladies on his arm,” Lloyd said.

Carlos Alcaraz is currently participating in the Omnium Banque Nationale Canadian Open as part of his preparation for the upcoming US Open.
