Clowney has been selected for the Pro Bowl three times and has recorded a total of 363 tackles, 52.5 sacks, and 15 forced fumbles over the course of 10 seasons. He played for the Texans for his first five seasons before moving on to four different teams in the last five seasons, including the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Browns, and Ravens.
Last year, at age 31, Clowney’s career saw a resurgence as he joined the Baltimore Ravens and excelled in pass rush ability and toughness. He showed his impact on games by achieving 9.5 sacks, equaling his career best record. In the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Clowney contributed a sack in the second half as the Baltimore team held off Patrick Mahomes.
According to a representative from the league, Clowney will be given additional compensation for achieving different levels of sacks: 8, 10, and 12. This information was reported by ESPN’s David Newton.

During the free agency period, D.J. Wonnum and K’Lavon Chaisson were added to the team. Chaisson was specifically brought in as a developmental project, while Wonnum is expected to start opposite Burns. However, neither of these players have a track record as reliable pass-rushers like Clowney.
Last year, on the last day of training camp, the Ravens brought in Clowney on a one-year deal worth .5 million. They were in need of an experienced pass-rusher for depth on their team. He went on to earn an additional .75 million through bonuses for achieving more than nine sacks and playing in over 60% of the team’s defensive snaps. Despite a history of injuries, Clowney managed to play in 19 games for Baltimore last season, including the playoffs. This was only the second time in his career that he played in every single game during a season.
Clowney is returning to his roots for this game, as he hails from Rock Hill, South Carolina, just under half an hour away from Charlotte. He shone at South Pointe High School and later continued his education at the University of South Carolina, approximately an hour and a half away from Charlotte.
