St. Brown stated that Johnson chose to inform other NFL teams of his decision to remain with the Lions in his current position rather than actively pursuing a head-coaching position during this offseason.
According to reports, several teams were hesitant to meet Johnson’s requested salary as a head coach, as shared by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
According to Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson still has unfinished business to attend to in Detroit.
Before the positions were filled, he had opportunities to pursue head coaching roles with the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and Los Angeles Chargers. He also considered positions with the Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks but ultimately decided to remain with the Lions.
On his podcast “St. Brown Brothers”, St. Brown discussed Johnson’s return, stating that Johnson had reached out to him on Tuesday morning to explain that he was coming back to the organization because he still has goals to achieve. The organization is focused on winning the Super Bowl after making it to the NFC Championship Game. As soon as St. Brown received the news, he texted quarterback Jared Goff to inform him.
