The Phillies Make Final Roster Moves Ahead of Opening Day

The Philadelphia Phillies have made their final roster adjustments as Opening Day approaches, with four players being moved as part of the spring training cuts.

Infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson has been optioned to Triple A, while right-hander David Buchanan, outfielder Jordan Luplow, and catchers Aramis Garcia and Cam Gallagher have been reassigned to the minor-league camp.

Wilson, despite being a longshot candidate for the final bench role, has shown promise with his power from the right side and versatility to play multiple positions. He may still have a chance to contribute to the Phillies in 2024, as he did in the previous season.

With Buchanan out of the mix for the long relief job, Spencer Turnbull emerges as the frontrunner for the role. Turnbull, who signed a one-year contract with incentives, provides the Phillies with a valuable option for extended outings out of the bullpen.

The composition of the Phillies’ bench will be influenced by the performance of Johan Rojas, with potential implications for players like Whit Merrifield, Edmundo Sosa, Garrett Stubbs, Cristian Pache, and Jake Cave.

A standout in camp, Aramis Garcia has showcased his skills as the Phillies’ third-string catcher, making a strong case for a roster spot.

As the Phillies finalize their spring roster with 38 players, the pitching staff, catchers, infielders, outfielders, and utility players are all set to contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
