On Wednesday, Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, an exceptional NBA player, solidified his place in history by claiming his third Most Valuable Player award.
“My teammates are the foundation; I am nothing without them,” Jokic stated on TNT following his MVP title. “Our coaches, players, organization, medical team, and strength and development coaches all play crucial roles. We are a united team, and without them, I cannot be who I am.”
Jokic easily won his third MVP title, receiving 79 first-place votes and a total of 926 points. Gilgeous-Alexander came in second with 15 first-place votes and 640 points, while Doncic received four first-place votes and 566 points. Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks came in fourth, with New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson rounding out the top five in the voting.LeBron James, Moses Malone, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.
Jokic’s stat line for the season included an average of 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists, placing him in the top 10 in each category. He recorded 25 triple-doubles, second only to Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings who had 26. Jokic also boasted impressive shooting percentages of 58.3% from the field and 35.9% from the three-point line.

Although Denver had the most impressive starting lineup in the league, the importance of Jokic to the team was undeniable. When Jokic was playing, the Nuggets had a net efficiency of plus-11.8, but when he was on the sidelines, they had a net efficiency of minus-8.6. Additionally, Jokic had the highest plus-minus in the NBA at plus-682, while the Nuggets had a minus-251 when their top player was not on the court.

Jokic has become the second player in NBA history to achieve 2,000 points, 900 rebounds, and 600 assists in a single season, following in the footsteps of Oscar Robertson.
If he achieves this, the player for the Nuggets will have accomplished a feat that only four other legendary players have been able to do in a span of four years. James, Johnson, Bird, and Russell are the only individuals to have won three regular-season MVP awards and secured two NBA championships within a four-year period.
“Nikola has developed and improved, he has shown his ability to elevate the performance of those around him,” stated Malone. “And even though we plan to defend our championship title and rebuild our team by replacing Bruce [Brown] and Jeff [Green] with younger players, we have still managed to surpass our record from last year.
“Many players deserve it,” commented Jokic on the competition for MVP. “It’s likely the little details that ultimately decide it.”
During his ninth year in the NBA, Jokic appeared in 79 games, the highest number since he played in 80 games during the 2018-19 season. According to research conducted by ESPN Stats & Information, he became only the second player in league history, along with Chamberlain, to place within the top five in points (5th), rebounds (3rd), and assists (2nd) in multiple seasons. The feat has only been accomplished once by another player, Elgin Baylor.
