Two Michigan State Football Players Enter Transfer Portal

Redshirt junior Simeon Barrow and junior Keyshawn Blackstock seek new schools

Michigan State’s football program has been hit with another blow as two players, redshirt junior defensive tackle Simeon Barrow and junior offensive tackle Keyshawn Blackstock, have entered the transfer portal. The news was confirmed by a program spokesman on Tuesday morning.

Interim coach Harlon Barnett revealed that he had met with Barrow earlier in the day and expected the three-year starter to enter the portal. Blackstock, on the other hand, is taking advantage of the portal window that opened for a 30-day period after coach Mel Tucker was fired for cause on September 27.

This latest development adds to the growing list of players leaving the Spartans’ roster. Long snapper Hank Pepper, defensive back Justin White, and running back Jordon Simmons had previously indicated their intent to transfer.

Barrow, who opted out of his true freshman season in 2020 due to pandemic uncertainty, quickly established himself as a key player the following year. In his career with the Spartans, he recorded 93 tackles, including 15.5 for a loss, 8.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble in 28 games with 25 starts.

Blackstock, a four-star JUCO prospect, spent two seasons at Coffeyville Community College before signing with Michigan State. He began the season as the backup left tackle but appeared in only the first four games before being ruled unavailable for the last three.

Barrow has one season of eligibility remaining, while Blackstock has two, thanks to the possibility of taking a redshirt for this year by appearing in only four games.

Michigan State’s football team has been struggling, losing five consecutive games, including a devastating 49-0 defeat against Michigan at home last week. The Spartans will now face Minnesota on Saturday, hoping to turn their fortunes around.
