Michigan women’s basketball welcomed another transfer on Wednesday, and the team is likely not finished yet.
Brooke Quarles-Daniels, a native of Macomb and leading scorer for Oakland during her sophomore season, revealed her decision to join Michigan on Wednesday. Michigan head coach Kim Barnes Arico also shared the news on social media.
The 5-foot-7 point guard was recognized as a second-team All-Horizon League player after averaging 13.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and three assists per game, all of which were team bests. She shot 42 percent from the field and 62 percent from the free-throw line. Quarles-Daniels only attempted 12 3-pointers in 29 games (making one). She was also a standout on defense.
She becomes the second transfer to Michigan this offseason, joining former Boston College forward Ally VanTimmeren. Michigan has seen six players leave through transfers since the previous season ended, and there could be more additions on the way.
Michigan and Oakland met last season, with the Wolverines securing an 80-39 victory at the Crisler Center on Nov. 14. Quarles-Daniels contributed 10 points that night on 4-of-8 shooting.
The Golden Grizzlies finished with a 12-17 overall record and an 8-12 conference record. Quarles-Daniels was named the league’s Freshman of the Year last season. She transitioned to Oakland after attending Macomb L’Anse Creuse North High School, where she earned a spot on MLive’s Metro Detroit Dream Team in 2022 after setting a career scoring record for the program.
Her statistical performance at Oakland mirrored that of her two years there, but turnovers emerged as an issue. She accumulated 176 turnovers compared to 174 assists during her college career.
“Grateful to be a Wolverine,” Quarles-Daniels expressed on social media. “Let’s get to work.”
In what ways could Quarles-Daniels’ performance against Michigan last season provide valuable insights for her new team now that she has joined the Wolverines?
