Jannik Sinner faced a tough challenge from Tallon Griekspoor but emerged victorious to progress in the Miami Open presented by Itau at Hard Rock Stadium. The second-seeded Italian battled past the Dutch World No. 26 with a hard-fought 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 win in the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Florida. A brief rain delay interrupted the match with Griekspoor in the lead, but Sinner showed remarkable resilience after the break to secure a well-deserved victory.

After the rain delay, Sinner dominated the proceedings, winning 10 of the 13 games played to maintain his unbeaten record against Griekspoor and improve his 2024 season to 18-1. The No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings now looks ahead to a fourth-round showdown against either Christopher O’Connell or Martin Damm.

“I think mentally I tried to stay strong, which I did, and I was in a tough situation today. After the rain came, I tried to come back a bit more aggressive, which I did, and obviously I’m really happy. It’s been a tough day for me, but very happy about the result,” said Sinner in his post-match interview.

Griekspoor initially posed a challenge with his powerful game, but Sinner’s serving prowess and consistency proved to be the difference-maker. Sinner’s ability to win 90% of points behind his first serve was instrumental in his victory, showcasing his dominance on the court.

“I think it just opens the court more,” said Sinner, reflecting on his strategic use of serves against Griekspoor. “You have to adapt. Sometimes you don’t feel it so much so you go more to the T, but it’s all part of where I need to be very clear in my mind and focused about what I am doing.”

Sinner is on a quest for his third tour-level title of 2024 and his second Masters 1000 crown in Miami, where he has previously reached the final twice.
