Next, Dre Greenlaw deflected a pass before it reached the goal-line, resulting in a field goal attempt.
With only 1:43 left in the game, and no breaks, the Cheifs were down by four points but still had a chance to win the championship with a touchdown. Mahomes and the offense received the ball at their own 23-yard line, but this time, it wasn’t one of his usual impressive performances. Despite his previous successes in similar situations, Chase Young, who joined the team mid-season, made a crucial sack on third-and-20, allowing the clock to continue running.
In the third quarter, the Chiefs gained possession and appeared to have a chance to tie the game at 10-10. They swiftly advanced into 49ers’ territory, but were unable to score, resulting in a 49-yard field goal by Butker. With the score now at 10-6, Kansas City was in desperate need of a defensive stop. It seemed like they might get it when the 49ers faced a third-and-10 situation, but Purdy made a crucial throw to Kittle for a 30-yard gain.

This included the Packers defeating the Cowboys in the playoffs, the Eagles being eliminated after just one game in the postseason, and the Chiefs making it to the Super Bowl.
The reception aided San Francisco in using up the remaining time in the quarter. At the start of the fourth quarter, a failed 57-yard field goal attempt by Jake Moody left the Niners with only a four-point lead. The Chiefs were unable to take advantage of this mistake and had a three-and-out on their next possession. San Francisco’s subsequent drive forced Andy Reid to use all of his timeouts, but his defense was able to make a stop and give the Chiefs a chance to win.
