Tournaments Won: 25

Most Notable Victory: 2020 Race to Dubai

Lee Westwood is widely regarded as one of the best players to never win a major championship.

The Englishman has come painfully close on several occasions. He has finished in the top-three in majors nine times, including three runner-up finishes.

His first close call came in 2008 at the U.S. Open, where he finished tied for third.

He followed that up by finishing tied for third at The Open Championship in back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010.

His best chance to win a major came at the 2010 Masters, when he held the 54-hole lead. But he stumbled on Sunday, shooting a 4-over 76 to finish tied for second behind Phil Mickelson.

Westwood continued to contend at majors in the following years, finishing in the top-10 multiple times.

In 2020, he had another opportunity to win at the age of 47 at The Open Championship, but fell short once again, finishing tied for 13th.

While Westwood has yet to break through in a major, he has had a successful career, winning numerous tournaments around the world and reaching the number one ranking in the Official World Golf Ranking in 2010.

Tournaments Won: 53

Most Notable Victories: 8 European Tour Order of Merit Titles

Colin Montgomerie is arguably the greatest player to never win a major championship.

The Scottish golfer was a dominant force in European golf during the 1990s and early 2000s, winning the European Tour Order of Merit eight times.

But despite his success on the European Tour, Montgomerie was never able to capture a major title.

He came close on numerous occasions, finishing in the top-three in majors five times.

His best chance to win a major came at the U.S. Open, where he finished second in 1994, 1997, and 2006.

Montgomerie also finished as the runner-up at The Open Championship in 2005, and tied for third at the PGA Championship in 1995.

While he was never able to break through in a major, Montgomerie had a highly successful career, winning 53 tournaments worldwide and representing Europe in the Ryder Cup on eight occasions.

His consistent play and dominance on the European Tour make him the clear number one on our list of the best players to never win a major championship.
