“We are pleased to have Justus, a diligent and talented goaltender, join our team at the NHL level,” stated Colorado Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland. “His dedication to improvement and growth in the AHL has translated to strong performances during his time with the Avalanche. We look forward to having him as part of our team for the next two seasons.”

The team’s backup goalie, who is 24 years old, has a record of 5 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie, with a 2.38 goals-against average, .926 save percentage, and 2 shutouts in 8 games this season while serving as the secondary option to Alexandar Georgiev.

Colorado (46-20-5) shares the top spot in the Central Division with the Dallas Stars as they prepare to face off against the Montreal Canadiens at Ball Arena on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET; ALT, TSN2, RDS).

On Tuesday, Justus Annunen agreed to a two-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche. The exact financial details were not revealed.

Annunen had the option to become a restricted free agent on July 1st.

In the 2018 NHL Draft, Annunen was chosen as the 64th pick by Colorado. He has played 12 games (11 as a starter) across three seasons, with a record of 7 wins, 3 losses, and 2 shutouts. His goals-against average is 2.85 and his save percentage is .908.

During an appearance on the “DNVR Avalanche” podcast, MacFarland stated that NHL goalie Pavel Francouz is unlikely to return to the ice due to a lower-body injury he suffered in the previous season.
