Diego Schwartzman Expresses Disappointment Over ATP Calendar Changes

Mar 22, 2024, 2:20 p.m.

Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman (122°) has voiced his discontent following the official announcement of the new ATP calendar for the 2025 season, particularly regarding the discontinuation of the tournament in Córdoba.

“The decision to reduce the number of tournaments in South America is disappointing. Bringing tournaments and opportunities to this region is crucial, and the removal of the Córdoba tournament is a shame,” expressed Schwartzman on social media. He has been a consistent participant in the Córdoba tournament, reaching the final in 2020.

The ATP 250 event in Córdoba, which has seen six different champions since its inception in 2019, will now be replaced by Majorca, a grass court tournament starting on June 22. This change will align Majorca as a lead-up event to Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season.

Schwartzman, known for his success at the highest level of competition, including four titles and a semifinal appearance at Roland Garros 2020, has previously supported the idea proposed by Andy Murray for the incorporation of a Masters 1000 event in the region.
