Daniel Theis to Join Clippers After Pacers Buyout, Sources Say
Indiana Pacers center Daniel Theis has reached an agreement on a contract buyout, paving the way for him to sign with the LA Clippers as a free agent, according to sources familiar with the matter. Theis is expected to clear waivers on Friday, allowing him to join the struggling Clippers team.
The Clippers have been on a downward spiral, suffering six consecutive losses since the acquisition of James Harden. The addition of Theis will address their need for frontcourt size, especially with backup center Mason Plumlee sidelined due to a sprained MCL in his right knee.
With $7.8 million remaining on his $9.1 million contract with the Pacers, Theis will sign a prorated veteran minimum deal worth .1 million, sources revealed.
According to insiders, the Clippers will have 15 guaranteed roster spots, including two-way guard Josh Primo, who recently signed a standard NBA contract through 2024-2025.
At 31 years old, Theis has had a solid career, averaging 7.5 points and 4.9 rebounds over seven seasons with the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, and Pacers. His best postseason performance came in 2020 with the Celtics, where he started 17 games and averaged 8.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks.
