In the world of baseball, there are few moments as special as a player making their MLB debut. For Milwaukee left-hander Robert Gasser, that moment is set to arrive this Friday as the Brewers face off against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Gasser, who will celebrate his 25th birthday on May 31, has had a journey filled with ups and downs since being acquired by the Brewers in the trade that sent star closer Josh Hader to San Diego in 2022.
Despite facing setbacks, including a diagnosis of bone chips in his throwing elbow that delayed his major league debut, Gasser has persevered with determination and grit.
“This is what everybody dreams of,” Gasser expressed before Thursday’s game. “I’m going to have family and friends here to watch it. I know they’re all as excited as I am.”
His resilience and hard work have not gone unnoticed by the Brewers organization. Manager Pat Murphy shared, “We told Gass in spring training, even before the injury, that you’re going to pitch in the major leagues, so prepare for your debut.”
Despite the challenges he has faced, Gasser’s talent and potential are undeniable. With a strong performance in Triple-A Nashville last season and a promising repertoire, he is poised to make an impact at the highest level.
