Andy Murray’s Playful Banter with Mom Judy Over Sporting Adventure

Andy Murray, the renowned tennis player, recently engaged in some light-hearted teasing with his mother, Judy, regarding her latest sporting endeavor. Judy, who is set to turn 65 later this year, has decided to participate in the Alfred Dunhill Padel Classic at Hurlingham, a move that has sparked amusement within the Murray family.

The Rise of Padel

Padel, a sport of Mexican origin, has been gaining popularity in recent years. It offers a unique twist on traditional tennis, with players competing on a smaller court enclosed by walls. The softer ball used in padel allows for strategic shots and exciting gameplay.

Judy, the proud mother of tennis stars Andy and Jamie Murray, humorously remarked that she opted for padel after realizing that traditional tennis courts now felt “too big” for her. In a light-hearted exchange, Andy quipped, “Think the Padel court might be a bit of a stretch too.”

Looking Ahead

As Judy prepares for the Alfred Dunhill Padel Classic, Andy faces a race against time to recover from an ankle injury sustained at the Miami Open. With the French Open on the horizon, Murray is determined to make a comeback and potentially participate in Wimbledon.

Reflecting on his career and the upcoming tournaments, Murray shared, “Last few years I’ve tried to give myself better preparation for the grass season, but that also doesn’t guarantee success on the grass. I would like to play one more time.”

While Murray focuses on his recovery and future competitions, Judy’s lighthearted foray into padel serves as a reminder of the joy and camaraderie that sports can bring, regardless of age or experience.

Andy Murray Teases Mom Judy Over Sporting Adventure

Andy Murray has poked fun at mom Judy over her latest sporting adventure. Judy, who will turn 65 later this year, has entered the Alfred Dunhill Padel Classic and declared that tennis courts were “too big”.

Padel: A Growing Sport

Padel is a sport of Mexican origin that has grown in popularity in recent years. Effectively a spin on doubles tennis, players compete on a small court enclosed by walls, which can be used to set up shots. The ball is also softer than a standard tennis ball.

Andy Murray’s Response

Two-time Wimbledon champion Murray spotted the perfect opportunity to poke fun, responding: “Think the Padel court might be a bit of a stretch too.”

Murray’s Road to Recovery

Murray is in a race against time to be fit for what could be his final French Open. The Brit damaged his ankle ligaments at the Miami Open in March and revealed that he was set for an “extended” spell away from the court.

The French Open could be Murray’s first tournament in nearly three months. He has been training on clay in preparation for the start of the tournament on May 26, by which time he will have turned 37. Murray may hope to play Roland Garros in preparation for Wimbledon, but says that scenario is not imperative.

“Last few years I’ve tried to give myself maybe better preparation for the grass season, but that also doesn’t guarantee that you’re going to play really well on the grass,” he said earlier this year.

Murray’s Future Plans

Murray has previously revealed that he does not plan on playing too far beyond the summer. There is hope that he will be fit to make a final appearance at the Wimbledon Championships.
