To submit an obituary, please send an email to obits@pioneerpress.com containing the details outlined in the obituary checklist below. Currently, there is no option to submit obituaries through our website. For any inquiries, do not hesitate to reach out to our obituary desk at 651-228-5263.
General Information:

Obituary Specifications:
- Name of the deceased,
- Text of the obituary,
- A photo in JPEG or PDF format is preferred; TIF and other formats are also accepted. We will reach out if there are any issues with the photo.
- Dates for the advertisement
- Discounts are available for running ads on multiple days; this must be arranged on the initial run date to qualify.
- If using a photo, it must appear on both days to receive the discount; please contact us for further details.
Policies:
Death Verification:
To publish obituaries, we require the name and contact number of the funeral home or cremation society involved. It is essential that we reach out to the funeral home/cremation society during their business hours to confirm the death. If the deceased’s body has been donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program or a similar initiative, their contact number will also be necessary for verification.
Please ensure that you provide sufficient time to contact them, particularly given their limited hours on weekends.
A death certificate can also serve this purpose, but you only need to provide one of these options.
Guestbook and External Websites:
When placing an obituary in print and online, we cannot reference other media sources that host guestbooks or obituaries. However, we can include a link to a funeral home website or a family email for contact purposes; please reach out with any questions regarding this policy.
Obituary Submission Process:
After you have completed your submission, we will send you a proof via fax or email for your review before it is published in the newspaper. This proof will include the pricing and the days on which the notice is scheduled to appear.
Please check the proof carefully.
We need to be informed of any errors or modifications prior to the notice being published in the Pioneer Press, adhering to each day’s deadlines.
After publication, we cannot take responsibility for errors that may arise after the final proof has been approved.
Online:
All obituaries are posted on TwinCities.com and include a permanent online guestbook. Should you desire the removal of the online guestbook, please reach out to us for assistance. Any changes to an online obituary can be coordinated through the obituary desk. For additional questions, feel free to contact us.
Payment Procedure:
Payment in advance is necessary for all obituary notices before they are published, in accordance with the deadline outlined in our schedule below. After receiving and approving the proof, please call 651-228-5263 with your payment details.
Credit Card: Payments are accepted only by phone due to PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance regulations.
EFT: Payment by check via phone is available. Please provide your routing and account numbers.
Cash: Can be paid at our FRONT COUNTER Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Rates:
- The minimum fee is $162 for the first 10 lines.
- Each additional line beyond the first 10 costs $12.20.
- If an ad is fewer than 10 lines, the minimum charge of $162 applies.
- For a second run date, the rate is $8.20 per line, beginning with the first line.
- For instance: if the first run date included 20 lines, the total would be $164.
- Every photo published incurs a fee of $125 per day.
- For example: 2 photos in the paper across 2 days would lead to 4 photo charges, totaling $500.
