McKeesport⁣ Honors WNBA Star Swin Cash with Court Dedication

MCKEESPORT, Pa. — Former‌ WNBA star‌ and two-time Olympic gold medalist Swin Cash was honored Monday⁢ night as teh McKeesport ‌Area School District dedicated a court in ⁤her name.

While Cash played high school basketball at McKeesport area High School, ​the court ⁣at Founders⁢ Hall Middle School, a‍ central location for the district’s athletic activities, now bears her name.

“She didn’t play⁢ here, so that was a little bit of a drawback to it,” said Charley Kiss, the McKeesport athletic director. “But we really have this ⁤gym as being our centerpiece ​to our campus, and we felt fitting that where we play all of our girls’ basketball‌ games here in the future, that she would be the court be named after⁣ her.”

A member of the McKeesport High​ School Class of 1998, Cash went on to a stellar collegiate career at the University of Connecticut, earning 2002 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player honors. ‌That same ⁣year, she was selected⁤ second overall in ‌the WNBA ⁢draft by the⁢ Detroit shock.⁢ Cash’s⁢ notable⁢ career also includes two Olympic gold medals,one in 2004​ and another in​ 2012,solidifying her as a trailblazer‍ for women’s athletics.

“I’m happy to see that women who‍ were in my era now can look back and see the Angel Reeses, the Caitlyn Clarks, and ⁣all the other female athletes really being able to be a professional athlete,” Cash said.

Off the court,​ Cash is ‍equally committed to empowering youth through her charity,​ Cash for Kids, which uses fitness and sports camps to motivate and educate children.

“It’s quite fitting,” Kiss said. “She’s had a great career. She’s doing great things even now in her professional life. We’re happy to have her back. It’s been an honor​ to help put this on tonight.”

Despite her numerous accomplishments, Cash considers being ​a mother and ​wife her greatest achievement. When asked about​ her greatest athletic accomplishment,she reflects on the impact she ​had on young ‍people from McKeesport:

“There⁤ were two years where some girl or some little boy in McKeesport was able to look⁣ and able to see⁢ me⁢ standing on the ⁤podium from their home city getting a ‍gold medal around my neck,” Cash said.
