Every employee undergoes job evaluations. Tyler Reddick, however, receives particularly candid feedback from his boss, Michael Jordan, co-owner of 23XI Racing.
During a recent episode of “Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour,” Reddick recounted an experience regarding Jordan critiquing his finishes on superspeedways.
“We were down in Daytona about a year and a half ago before the 500, and while discussing something related to speedway racing with him and Bubba [Wallace], I don’t recall my exact words, but he [Jordan] looked at me and said, ‘You aren’t in a position to speak. You’re horrible at speedway racing.’ He threw that jab at me unexpectedly,” Reddick shared with a laugh to host Kevin Harvick. “Bubba and Michael enjoy their banter. Michael has a knack for joking around, and that comment took me by surprise. I received it positively, thinking, ‘Okay, I’ve got work to do now. This is extra motivation.’
“I was already eager to improve my speedway racing skills, but when MJ calls you out on your performance, it’s easy to find that extra drive. We did our best that year, although things didn’t pan out as hoped. However, during this past offseason, I, along with [spotter] Nick Payne and Billy, dedicated a lot of time to analyzing race strategies, and I believe our approach this year during the speedway events has significantly improved.”
Looking at Reddick’s results on superspeedways this season, he finished 28th and 29th at Daytona International Speedway, yet he managed to secure a win at the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Currently, Reddick is tied with William Byron for third place in the NASCAR playoffs (2,059 points). Over the season, he has achieved two victories along with 11 top-5 finishes and 19 top-10 finishes.
