The trial for five members of Canada’s 2018 World Junior Hockey Team, charged with sexual assault, is set to begin on April 22, 2025. Ontario Superior Court Judge Bruce Thomas made the ruling during a virtual meeting Tuesday in London, Ont., where he finalized the date with Crown and defense attorneys.

Former NHLers Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Carter Hart, and Alex Formenton each face one count of sexual assault. Michael McLeod faces two counts, including one alleging aiding another in commission of the offense.
All players were not re-signed by their NHL teams over the summer, making them unrestricted free agents. Dube and McLeod signed with KHL teams; it is reported that McLeod has since left his KHL team.
In May 2022, reports surfaced that Hockey Canada settled a civil lawsuit with a woman from London who alleged she was sexually assaulted by eight men, including players from the 2018 world junior team, after an event honoring them in June 2018. The initial investigation by the London Police Service, launched in summer 2018 and closed in February 2019, concluded insufficient evidence existed for charges. Renewed scrutiny of Hockey Canada’s response led to the London police reopening their investigation in July 2022.
The next round of pre-trial motions are scheduled to begin November 25 in London.
