GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — At Luke Elementary School in Glendale, students had the opportunity to experience the excitement of being professional NASCAR drivers for a day. “Yeah, this is like one of my first experiences since preschool. It’s really exciting and fun,” remarked one student.
The students enjoyed activities such as testing out a victory lane, designing their own race cars, and using advanced simulators and videos.
The event was not only entertaining but also aimed at educating the children about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
“They’re going to remember this hopefully for a lifetime, so it’s incredibly important for them to understand how much STEM influences everything they do. Whether you’re operating a raceway or driving a car, STEM plays a vital role in all of that,” stated Latasha Causey, president of Phoenix Raceway.
This field trip was made possible through a collaboration between Phoenix Raceway and the Larry Fitzgerald Foundation.
“Our aim is to fuel their passion. We want to accelerate their ambitions and help them reach their goals,” expressed Larry Fitzgerald Jr, former Arizona Cardinals player.
Almost 100 students took part in this event, which was held in honor of Veteran’s Day and the upcoming NASCAR Championship series. Luke Elementary is recognized as a purple star school, supporting many military families at Luke Air Force Base.
