GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — At Luke Elementary School in Glendale, students ⁤had the opportunity to experience the ‌excitement of being professional NASCAR drivers for a day. ⁣“Yeah, this is⁣ like one of my⁤ first experiences⁣ since preschool. It’s really exciting⁢ and fun,” remarked one student.

The students enjoyed activities such as testing out a victory lane, designing their⁤ own race cars, and using advanced simulators and videos.

The event was not⁤ only entertaining‌ but also aimed at educating the children about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, ⁤and Mathematics).

“They’re going ‌to remember this hopefully for a lifetime, so ‍it’s incredibly important for them to understand how much STEM influences everything they do. Whether you’re operating a raceway or driving a car, STEM plays a vital role⁣ in all ‍of that,” stated Latasha Causey, president of Phoenix Raceway.

This field trip was made possible through a collaboration between Phoenix Raceway⁣ and the Larry Fitzgerald Foundation.

“Our aim⁤ is to ⁢fuel their passion. We want to accelerate ⁢their ambitions and ‍help them reach their goals,” expressed Larry Fitzgerald Jr, former Arizona Cardinals ⁣player.

Almost 100 students took part in this event, which was held in honor⁢ of Veteran’s Day and the upcoming ‌NASCAR Championship series. Luke Elementary is recognized as a purple star school, ⁤supporting many military ⁤families at Luke Air Force Base.
