JINAN, China – The Shandong University (SDU) football team is setting its sights high as it prepares for the 2025 China Amateur Football League (also known as Zhong Guan League). Fresh off a series of extraordinary performances, including winning the Shandong Province Super League, the team aims not only to compete but to vie for the championship.
Before the Zhong guan League, the team is also set to compete in the Shandong Province Campus Football League and represent Shandong in the 15th National Games’ seven-a-side competition.
A Legacy of Excellence and Tradition
Established in 1987 as one of the first universities in China to recruit high-level athletes,SDU’s football program boasts a rich history. The team has consistently ranked among the nation’s best in university football leagues, with numerous players selected for China’s University National Team.
Head Coach Zhang Liguo, an alumnus of SDU and former professional player, returned to his alma mater in 2018 to lead the team. Despite initial challenges, Zhang and his players revitalized the program, culminating in a second-place finish in the 2021 National Youth Campus Football League and securing their return to the Super Group.
