HAVANA,Cuba – The Dominican Republic Badminton Federation (FEDOBAD) is
competing in the Giraldilla International Tournament in Havana,Cuba,from
June 12-16 as part of its preparation for the Junior Pan American Games and
the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

representing bahoruco, and Anderson Taveras, from Bayaguana, the country’s

Taveras, 24, expressed his determination to gain enough points in Cuba to
ensure his participation in Santo Domingo 2026. Acostas, 23, said she has
been working hard to reach the podium at the Cuban tournament and achieve a
good ranking for the upcoming major event in the Dominican Republic.
Intensive Training Underway
The selected junior and senior athletes have been training rigorously at the
Tony Barreiro pavilion on the campus of the Autonomous University of Santo
domingo (UASD) and in the municipality of Bayaguana in Monte Plata province.
FEDOBAD has requested that the Ministry of Sports (MIDEREC) provide roofing
for several open courts near the Wushu pavilion at the Juan Pablo Duarte
Olympic Center.

Looking ahead, the first Bayaguana Tournament 2025 will commence on Friday, June
14, at the isaac Ogando Sports Complex in Monte Plata. More than 200 athletes
from 13 provincial associations are expected to participate. The event is
sponsored by MIDEREC and the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI).
The primary goal is to promote enjoyment of the sport among children in the
Under-11, Under-13, and Under-15 categories, fostering the advancement of
badminton in the country.
