The Daytona International Speedway, spanning 2.5 miles and‍ nearly 500 acres, is conveniently located in the backyard⁢ of Volusia County⁣ students.

This towering structure mirrors their aspirations and encompasses all their dreams.

Through comprehensive partnerships with the ‍school district, the speedway, alongside its prominent tenant⁢ NASCAR and the NASCAR Foundation, endeavors to turn those dreams into reality. These⁣ initiatives include⁢ visits from drivers and pit ⁣crews to schools,⁢ as well as support for Career and Technical Education programs,‍ providing ⁣students with valuable insights into their future.

“When we visit schools, from kindergarten classrooms ‍to high school auditoriums, ‌students⁢ grasp the significance of Daytona International Speedway on a global sports level,” said DIS President Frank Kelleher. “They ⁢feel inspired‍ and grateful that the speedway is engaging ‌with them⁤ and is committed⁤ to enhancing their ‍education and⁣ personal growth.”

According to ⁢Denise Ribeiro,‌ the ⁢school⁤ district’s community information ‌specialist for‍ business partnerships,‌ Volusia⁤ County Schools has numerous business partnerships ranging from large corporations to local small‌ businesses.

The school district boasts around a dozen “strategic partnerships” with organizations like AdventHealth, Launch Credit Union, ⁤Addition Financial, ⁢and the Peabody Auditorium Foundation.

These collaborations influence various facets of the school ‍system through ‍sponsorship, events, material⁤ donations, and personal appearances, explained Ms. Ribeiro, ‍who acts as the⁢ liaison connecting ‍the district and ⁢its partners.

The speedway and NASCAR motivate racing teams and drivers to participate with schools when‍ they are in the vicinity ⁤for races.

For instance, during the Daytona 500 week this year, NASCAR driver Erik Jones, along with ‍his Legacy‌ Motor Club sponsor AdventHealth, provided a book⁢ vending machine ⁤to Blue Lake Elementary School in ‍DeLand.

In August, Mr. Jones’ No. 43⁣ pit crew engaged with students at Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, discussing their careers and competing in⁣ games ahead ⁤of the⁤ Coke Zero Sugar 400.

In the same ‌week, NASCAR ⁢driver Tyler Reddick held a Q&A‌ session with students at Turie T. Small Elementary ⁢in Daytona Beach, while his 23XI Racing partner MoneyLion⁤ made a $10,000 contribution to the school.

Tiffany McCann, a CTE specialist for‌ the school district, highlighted Atlantic ⁤High School as one of the ‌primary beneficiaries of these partnerships, as it houses the district’s only automotive tech program.

In 2023, NASCAR driver Jimmie⁤ Johnson addressed the class, and in August, students experienced the thrill of meeting drivers at the‍ track, visiting‍ Victory Lane, and holding the trophy for the Coke Zero ⁣Sugar ‌400 race.

Ms. McCann noted that these experiences can sometimes have a greater ‌impact than ‌financial contributions.

“The in-kind services and experiences they offer to the students are ⁢extraordinary,” she stated. “While it⁤ may not be monetary ⁤support, it’s their time and talents that enrich the kids’ experiences.”

The speedway‍ additionally sponsors the auto⁣ tech program at the⁢ Port Orange school. During Bike Week in March, the ‍class enjoyed a visit⁣ to ⁣the flat track at the speedway to interact with riders.

“These⁢ opportunities right in our ‍own backyard at the ‘World Center of Racing’ are not available to every school district,” Mr. Kelleher remarked.

The NASCAR Foundation also‌ organizes its Speediatrics Fun Day Festival at⁣ the ‌racetrack. This ⁤foundation assists students ⁤through health and wellness initiatives, ⁢including the Speediatrics⁤ Children’s ⁤Fund. At this year’s festival, students ‌from Westside Elementary and ⁣Galaxy Middle schools received new bicycles and⁤ helmets from the foundation.

Ms. McCann expressed⁣ joy in witnessing the smiles of students during⁢ these events, while Ms. Ribeiro recalled a touching⁤ moment in 2023 when Journey Brown, a former college football player turned NASCAR pit crew member, visited ‌Westside Elementary in Daytona Beach.

“There was a young boy who became very emotional as he looked ⁣at Journey and said, ‘I never thought I would ‍meet anyone like you before,’” she ‍shared. “Through our partnerships with various organizations and NASCAR, ⁣we ‌are able to provide students ⁣with experiences that ⁤they could hardly ever imagine.”

Such experiences may ⁣include hopes of a⁢ future at the speedway. Mr. Kelleher often reminds students that⁢ the speedway is hiring,‍ encompassing roles‌ from HVAC technicians‍ and plumbers to executives ‌and lawyers.

“Sometimes, it’s meeting someone who ⁤offers a glimpse into what life could be that sparks motivation to excel in school,” ‍he ⁢added.

Speedway‌ and NASCAR employees live, work, ‌and ⁤enjoy life in Volusia, and⁣ the school ‌district aspires to cultivate graduates who wish to establish their careers in their home county, Ms. Ribeiro stated.

While the events‌ surrounding major races often ⁢capture the spotlight, Mr. Kelleher emphasized that ⁢the speedway, NASCAR, and its foundation present⁣ opportunities throughout the year, from supplying backpacks and educational materials to connecting students ‍with inspiring⁢ individuals.

“Once again, perhaps this serves ⁢as the motivation a student needs to persevere, graduate, and pursue a thriving career,” he‍ concluded.
