According to Denise Ribeiro, the school district’s community information specialist for business partnerships, Volusia County Schools has numerous business partnerships ranging from large corporations to local small businesses.
The school district boasts around a dozen “strategic partnerships” with organizations like AdventHealth, Launch Credit Union, Addition Financial, and the Peabody Auditorium Foundation.
These collaborations influence various facets of the school system through sponsorship, events, material donations, and personal appearances, explained Ms. Ribeiro, who acts as the liaison connecting the district and its partners.
The speedway and NASCAR motivate racing teams and drivers to participate with schools when they are in the vicinity for races.
For instance, during the Daytona 500 week this year, NASCAR driver Erik Jones, along with his Legacy Motor Club sponsor AdventHealth, provided a book vending machine to Blue Lake Elementary School in DeLand.
In August, Mr. Jones’ No. 43 pit crew engaged with students at Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, discussing their careers and competing in games ahead of the Coke Zero Sugar 400.
In the same week, NASCAR driver Tyler Reddick held a Q&A session with students at Turie T. Small Elementary in Daytona Beach, while his 23XI Racing partner MoneyLion made a $10,000 contribution to the school.
Tiffany McCann, a CTE specialist for the school district, highlighted Atlantic High School as one of the primary beneficiaries of these partnerships, as it houses the district’s only automotive tech program.

“The in-kind services and experiences they offer to the students are extraordinary,” she stated. “While it may not be monetary support, it’s their time and talents that enrich the kids’ experiences.”
The speedway additionally sponsors the auto tech program at the Port Orange school. During Bike Week in March, the class enjoyed a visit to the flat track at the speedway to interact with riders.
“These opportunities right in our own backyard at the ‘World Center of Racing’ are not available to every school district,” Mr. Kelleher remarked.
The NASCAR Foundation also organizes its Speediatrics Fun Day Festival at the racetrack. This foundation assists students through health and wellness initiatives, including the Speediatrics Children’s Fund. At this year’s festival, students from Westside Elementary and Galaxy Middle schools received new bicycles and helmets from the foundation.

“There was a young boy who became very emotional as he looked at Journey and said, ‘I never thought I would meet anyone like you before,’” she shared. “Through our partnerships with various organizations and NASCAR, we are able to provide students with experiences that they could hardly ever imagine.”
