This Saturday, August 10, 2024, an old friend will return to the ARCA Menards West Series at Tri-City Raceway, recognized as the fastest half-mile tri-oval globally. Situated in West Richland, Washington, this venue has hosted the West Series nine times between 1968 and 2003.
The NAPA Auto Care 150 will mark the eighth race of the season and feature another familiar face from the West Series: Greg Biffle. The former champion of both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (2000) and NASCAR Xfinity Series (2002), Biffle is also renowned in the NASCAR Cup Series with a record of 19 victories. Originally hailing from Portland, OR but raised in Vancouver, WA., he is well-acquainted with Tri-City Raceway after clinching a championship there in1995.
However, his last appearance on this tri-oval occurred on August 31,1997 during an event for the now-defunct NASCAR Northwest Series where he finished second—nearly27 years ago! During his time with John Kieper’s team in1996 at Tucson and Altamont for two races in that year for Wes’s series Biffle managed a thirtieth place finish at Tucson before finishing fourth at Altamont. This year he will pilot car No.23 from Sigma Performance Services—a top-performing vehicle that celebrated victory at Sonoma with driver Sam Mayer last June.
Biffle won’t be alone as a highlight of this race; indeed,a fierce competition is brewing between Tyler Reif (Central Coast Racing No.13) and Sean Hingorani (Jerry Pitts Racing No.5) chasing after championship supremacy; meanwhile Jack Wood (Bill McAnally Racing No.16), Trevor Huddleston (High Point Racing No.50),or Kyle Keller(Kennealy-Keller Motorsports No.12) are determined to disrupt their efforts throughoutthe rest ofthe season.

No. 7 Takuma Koga (Jerry Pitts Racing)
After finishing ninth at Shasta, the Japanese driver is eager to improve his performance on the trioval in Washington State. He has experience on this track from his days racing in the Northwest Tour Series back in…2001! Qualifying at a respectable 14th out of a field of 27, he unfortunately had to retire after a tire puncture on lap112 out of125 when a top-ten finish seemed achievable. This year, he is hopeful for better fortune while contending with the notoriously tough tire wear that Tri-City imposes.
As mentioned previously in this article’s introduction, by participating in this race, Koga will make history as the foreign driver with the most starts (122) in West Series history. Denny Moyer is set to be his crew chief.
No.11 Danica Dart (Kennealy Keller Motorsports)
Danica finally had her chance to compete fully at Irwindale within the West Series—a valuable learning experience as she successfully completed the race. This knowledge will serve her well at Tri-City since she is quite familiar with it; having raced there earlier this year in the Northwest Super Late Models (SLM) Series.
The SLMs ran at speeds reaching around100 mph per lap; thus providing a similar competitive environment expected for ARCA West Series cars. Danica recently secured third place at Montana200 held at Mission Valley Speedway (July13), outperforming newcomers Jess Havens(9th) and Kasey Kleyn(17th). Interestingly enough,the event was won by Jeff Jefferson—the last winner ofTriCity’s WestSeries event backin2003! Charlie Wilson will be her crew chief for this endeavor.
No.12 Kyle Keller (Kennealy Keller Motorsports)
Keller’s solid top-five finish last week has him aiming higher—he’s targeting a podium placementatTriCity—even if it means venturing into unfamiliar territory alongside mostofhis fellow competitorswho are also discoveringthis half-miletrackwith its three turns.Brian Kizerwill assume crew chief responsibilitiesfor him.
