“I know I’m going to perform well there, but so will AJ [Allmendinger] and many others,” van Gisbergen remarked.
“Everyone has logged many laps there, so it’s hard to predict. However, we need to improve our cars. We were quite far off at Watkins Glen.
“A setup similar to what worked in Chicago could be effective, but we’ll see. We should be fast if we get the car dialed in, but the favorites are up for you to decide.
“I did a simulator run the other day,” he added.
“I tested that track prior to Chicago last year. It’s quite intriguing. There’s a blind crest, and you get a bit of air as well.
“It will certainly be a challenge. The hairpin offers great opportunities for passing and potentially chaotic situations. I believe it’ll be exciting.”

While van Gisbergen is recognized as a specialist for street and road circuits, the Kiwi noted that the ROVAL is unlike any other.
“It’s not similar to anything I’ve driven before; it’s somewhat of a hybrid,” he stated.
“The corner styles are different; it does not behave like a typical street circuit since the walls aren’t too close in several areas.
“It’s a peculiar track, and the cars have to adapt to run on both the oval and the road course. Additionally, there are curbs, and I’m uncertain how well these cars will handle them.
“We rarely compete on tracks with significant curbs, so it will be interesting to see how much I can push and utilize them effectively, as well as how to execute overtaking. There’s much to learn.
“NASCAR is always chaotic, isn’t it? There will be lots of chances to overtake at this track, which is positive, but I hope it leads to a great race.”
Van Gisbergen will compete in the Xfinity Series on Sunday at 7 am (AEDT) in the #97 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet Camaro.
