Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, has criticized Sergio Perez after his “complete collapse” during the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix.
Meetings are scheduled for Monday to evaluate Red Bull’s driver roster for 2025, putting Perez at risk of losing his spot with the reigning champions.
The 34-year-old has struggled significantly and fell from second place on the grid at Spa-Francorchamps to an eighth-place finish. He also faced a considerable defeat against his teammate Max Verstappen, who had started from 11th due to a 10-place grid penalty for an engine swap.
Marko shared with Sky Germany: “Sergio had a perfect chance to secure a strong result starting from second. Unfortunately, he couldn’t capitalize on it. Particularly in the final stint, he completely faltered and recorded lap times of 1m48s.”
“What appeared promising during qualifying sadly did not translate into race performance.”
Regarding Monday’s discussion about their driver line-ups across both Red Bull and its sister team RB, Marko commented: ”For us, it’s essential to evaluate the overall situation concerning our plans for 2025. We have numerous drivers in mind along with a strategic plan.”
“However, each result is critical for Sergio; finishing eighth after starting second is certainly below our expectations.”

Perez hasn’t secured a victory since April 2023 at the Azerbaijan GP. Earlier this season, Red Bull proposed him a two-year contract extension in hopes of improving his performances.
This offer appeared designed to alleviate pressure on Perez so that he could perform better on track; however,” expected results have yet to surface.
This scenario opens doors for Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson or Yuki Tsunoda as potential replacements if Red Bull opts for changes in its driver lineup. It remains uncertain whether such changes will occur mid-season as Formula 1 teams approach their summer break.
Perez attributed his underwhelming performance to various factors including issues with power on straightaways alongside problems related to traffic management strategy and tire balance.
Nonetheless ,he remains determined that he will still be racing for Red Bull during the Dutch Grand Prix following the summer intermission while firmly stating that he won’t entertain further questions regarding his future.
