Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is unlikely to play on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers due to a thumb injury, according to a source close to the team.

Stafford sustained a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb during last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He is officially listed as questionable for the upcoming game.

Rams’ star rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua, who is also listed as questionable for the Packers game, is expected to be in the lineup, as per a source.

Earlier this week, it was deemed highly unlikely for Stafford to be able to play on Sunday, but the veteran quarterback has shown signs of progress. While Stafford is eager to take the field, the team acknowledges the significant challenge it poses, the source added.

If Stafford is ruled out, Brett Rypien will step in as the starting quarterback, with Dresser Winn serving as the backup.

The Rams will have their bye week following Sunday’s game, providing Stafford with two weeks to recover if he sits out. Their next game is scheduled for November 19 against the Seattle Seahawks.
