BORNHOLM, Denmark – Twenty-two young badminton players from Bornholm are traveling to Funen this weekend to compete against players from across Denmark. This trip marks the culmination of the “Team Fjer Bornholm” pilot project, a three-year initiative designed to develop the island’s most promising youth badminton talent.
“Team Fjer Bornholm” Cultivates Young Talent
Launched as a pilot project, “Team Fjer Bornholm” sought to enhance badminton opportunities for local youth. DGI Badminton Bornholm established a dedicated growth group for players eager to advance their skills.
In early 2025, the program assembled 30 selected players from various Bornholm clubs for intensive training sessions. These sessions, held throughout February and march, were led by experienced coaches Henrik Messerschmidt and former elite player stine Messerschmidt.
Training and Tournament
Participating clubs nominated between four and eight players for the training program, with the understanding that they would continue their regular club training. The “Team Fjer Bornholm” development group provides a platform for these athletes to further refine their badminton abilities.
The program aimed to conclude the season with a tournament on mainland Denmark,giving the young players a chance to test their skills against a wider pool of competitors.The 22 players will depart for Funen on Friday, anticipating a challenging yet rewarding experience.Organizers hope the event will foster camaraderie among Bornholm players and forge new friendships with badminton enthusiasts from other regions.
