Montreal Pop-up Shop Promotes Eco-Kind Wardrobes
From March 24-30,Concertation Montréal will launch the inaugural “Magasine ta solution!” pop-up shop. This event offers innovative ideas for adopting more responsible clothing and textile consumption habits. For one week, a 3,000-square-foot space at the Alexis Nihon shopping center will be dedicated to raising awareness among Quebecers about textile waste.
“We can extend the life of a garment by repairing it,so bring a piece of clothing, and designers and seamstresses will be on-site to help you fix it,” explained Janie-Claude Viens, development agent, ecological transition,at Concertation Montréal. “We want people to wear their clothes for as long as possible, encourage them to repair and maintain them, and that’s why we’re offering concrete solutions for an eco-responsible wardrobe.”
Viens noted that in Quebec, each person consumes approximately 40 kg of new textiles annually, with 82% of consumed clothing being imported. The amount of textiles ending up in landfills jumped by 81.9% between 2011 and 2019-2020.
“These figures remind us that we need to take action. Before making a purchase, we can ask ourselves several questions. We propose the BISOU method: B for Besoin (Need), do I really need it? I for Immédiat (Immediate), can I wait a few days before making a purchase? S for Semblable (Similar), do I have a garment similar to the one I want to buy? O for Origine (Origin), where does the product come from, where was it made? And U for Utile (Useful), will this garment really be useful to me?”
The “Magasine ta solution!” event is organized in collaboration with the Chaînon store and Cominar, a shopping center owner, including Alexis Nihon. Stylists, designers, and fashion industry professionals look forward to welcoming you from March 24-30.
