NASCAR’s Jay Fabian Guilty of Animal Cruelty: Court’s Verdict and Implications

Former NASCAR Cup Series ‌director Jay Fabian was found guilty ‌of ⁤three misdemeanor charges related to ‌animal ‍cruelty, concluding a‍ lengthy legal battle.⁤ Motorsports analyst ‌and journalist⁢ Bob Pockrass reported the court’s verdict.

Fabian, who served as the​ NASCAR Cup Series director at the time, ​faced two felony and one misdemeanor ​charge in 2021. Following the ⁣allegations, he was ⁢asked to step down from his position. The Stock Car Association issued ‌a statement:

The court delivered its ⁢final verdict, and Bob Pockrass shared that Jay Fabian was ⁤sentenced to 90 days in jail, suspended as long as‌ he successfully completes a five-year probation ⁣period. Additionally, Fabian is prohibited from owning dogs.

Reports indicated that an animal cruelty complaint was filed against Fabian on July 21, 2021, at approximately 3 pm. Officers discovered one deceased dog, one⁢ nearly ‍deceased dog, and another alive but in dire condition.

According to the 2021 documents,‌ Fabian “intentionally​ and with malice” ‍deprived his ⁢dog,‍ Jasper, of basic ‌necessities‌ required for life, causing the dog to suffer immense⁣ pain leading to a⁣ torturous death. His other dog endured extreme ⁤dehydration and ⁣starvation. The arrest ‌warrant cited Fabian’s violation of Sections 14-360 (A) and 14-360 (B) of ​North‌ Carolina Law.

Section 14-360(A) states that anyone who ​intentionally overdrives, ‍overloads,⁤ wounds, injures, torments, kills, ‌or deprives ‌any animal of necessary sustenance⁣ is guilty of a Class⁤ 1 misdemeanor. Section 14-360(B) declares that anyone who maliciously tortures, mutilates, maims, ⁤cruelly beats, ⁤disfigures, poisons, or kills any animal is guilty of a Class H felony.
