WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WBTV) – NASCAR is set to host its annual preseason exhibition event known as “The Clash” at a historic racetrack in North Carolina.
The 2025 edition of The Clash will take place on February 2 at Bowman Gray Stadium, a quarter-mile track located in Winston-Salem, which has not featured a Cup Series race since 1971.
Bowman Gray boasts a rich racing history, including events at the highest levels of the sport. From 1958 to 1971, the track inside Winston-Salem State’s football stadium hosted a total of 29 Cup races, with notable winners such as Lee and Richard Petty, Junior Johnson, David Pearson, and Bobby Allison.
Affectionately nicknamed “The Madhouse,” this venue has hosted numerous K&N East Series races and continues to be a part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. Notably, Bowman Gray holds the title of the longest-running weekly racetrack and was the very first paved track on which NASCAR competed.
“With a rich history in motorsports, Bowman Gray Stadium is a treasured venue, and we are thrilled to bring the Cup Series back to this iconic racetrack,” stated Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s Executive VP and Chief Venue & Racing Innovation Officer. “As the original home of grassroots racing, Bowman Gray has a legacy of fierce competition, making it an ideal location for The Clash at ‘The Madhouse.’”
In the past three years, The Clash has taken place at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, on a temporary quarter-mile track. Before that, it was held at Daytona during Speedweeks.
The return of Bowman Gray Stadium adds to the ongoing resurgence of the NASCAR schedule, following the North Wilkesboro Speedway having hosted the last two All-Star Races, with another scheduled for 2025.
Now, with both Bowman Gray and North Wilkesboro back on the calendar, North Carolina will have a total of four Cup Series dates, in addition to the spring and fall races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
A waiting list for tickets is currently available, which can be joined here. A deposit of $25 can be made to secure exclusive early access when tickets become available.
