RALEIGH, N.C. (October 23, 2024) – NASCAR Cup Series driver Ross Chastain visited Wake Tech on Wednesday to encourage students and the community to take it easy on the roads and keep the racing on the track.
The driver of the No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 stopped by the Hendrick Center for Automotive Excellence on the Scott Northern Wake Campus, participating in an initiative of the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
Having grown up driving tractors and four-wheelers on his family’s watermelon farm, Chastain is dedicated to promoting safe driving practices and has introduced what he calls the “Protect Your Melon” initiative.
“Buckle your seat belt, avoid drinking and driving, and never text while you’re driving. That message can wait until you reach your destination,” he advised the students.
Chastain also took time to answer questions, sign autographs, and take photos with students enrolled in the high-demand Automotive Systems Technology and Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology programs located at the Hendrick Center.
