NASCAR to Host Preseason Busch Clash Race at LA Coliseum

Exciting Season Opener to Feature NASCAR Mexico Series Race

For the third consecutive season, NASCAR is set to host its preseason non-points Busch Clash race on a brand-new ¼-mile oval track built in the iconic LA Coliseum. The highly anticipated race will take place on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, and will be accompanied by a thrilling NASCAR Mexico Series race, adding to the excitement of the season-opening Cup Series exhibition.

“This is a tremendous win for our fans and our sport,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s senior vice president of racing development and strategy. “Not only will the fans witness the stars of the NASCAR Cup Series in action, but they will also have the opportunity to experience the incredible talent and skill showcased in the NASCAR Mexico Series. I can’t think of a better way to kick off our 2024 season.”

The Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum has become a tradition for NASCAR, with Joey Logano winning the inaugural event in 2022 and Martin Truex Jr. claiming victory in the most recent race. Now, a NASCAR Mexico Series driver will also have the chance to celebrate in the historic coliseum, which has hosted numerous major events, including two Super Bowls, two Olympics, and a World Series, over the past century.

“This is an incredible honor for the NASCAR Mexico Series and its drivers,” expressed Jimmy Morales, president and general manager of the NASCAR Mexico Series. “The competition in our series is always intense, and I know our drivers will be determined to become the first Mexican driver to win inside the legendary Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. This is going to be a race we will remember for a long time.”

The NASCAR Mexico Series, which was established in 2004 and became NASCAR’s first internationally sanctioned series three years later, competes on tracks across nine major cities in Mexico. It has served as a launching pad for talented drivers like Daniel Suárez, the current Cup Series star and 2016 Xfinity Series champion, who began his stock car racing career in the NASCAR Mexico Series in 2008. Other series alumni, such as Max Gutierrez and Andres Perez de Lara, are also making their way up the NASCAR touring ladder.

The Busch Light Clash will be broadcasted by NASCAR on Fox, setting the stage for the highly anticipated 2024 Cup season. The NASCAR Mexico Series race will be televised on Fox Sports 3 in Mexico and will be available pan regionally on Claro Sports and the D Motors channel on DirecTV.
