“It’s difficult to articulate my feelings,” Oher recalled when reflecting on his initial viewing of the movie in his conversation with The New York Times. “To be honest, it felt somewhat humorous to me, almost like a comedy about someone else. It didn’t really resonate. But as social media began to grow, I started seeing narratives that portrayed me as unintelligent. Every article mentioned ‘The Blind Side,’ almost as if it was my identity.
“If my children struggle with something in class, will their teacher think, ‘Their father is not smart — is that the reason they are having difficulty?’”
The film was inspired by Michael Lewis’ 2006 book about Oher and the Tuohy family. Before the film debuted, Oher believed Lewis’ book depicted him as uneducated, which he felt influenced his draft position. Oher was chosen as the 23rd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
“NFL executives were questioning whether I was capable of reading a playbook,” Oher explained.

A judge in Tennessee dissolved the unusual conservatorship last year but did not dismiss the financial aspects of the case. According to court records, the Tuohys maintain that they provided Oher with an equal share of the film profits from “The Blind Side” — around $138,000 — the same amount received by each of them and their children.
