LIMA, Peru – Miriam Rodríguez and Romina Fregoso secured at least a bronze medal in women’s doubles at the Badminton Pan American Individual championships in Lima, Peru, after advancing to the semifinals.

The pair from Jalisco, Mexico, defeated Guatemalans Diana Corleto and Nikte sotomayor in the quarterfinals with a score of 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) Thursday, continuing their quest for gold.

Rodríguez and Fregoso are scheduled to compete against Americans Lauren Lam and Allison Lee in the semifinals Friday morning in the Peruvian capital.

Cecilia Madera and Isabella Puente concluded their participation in the quarterfinals, losing to Canadians Jackie Dent and Crystal Lai 2-0 (21-12, 21-1). In men’s singles, Luis Ramón Garrido and Job Castillo were defeated in the quarterfinals by Kevin Cordon of Guatemala and victor Lai of Canada, respectively. Néstor González’s run ended in the round of 16 against Brazil’s Donnians Oliveira.
