Lisandro Martinez departed for Paraguay shortly after Manchester United’s 3-0 triumph over Leicester City.
The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes against Leicester on Sunday, marking Ruud van Nistelrooy’s farewell match. His recent performances have been lauded as “excellent” for United, leading to his selection for the Argentina national team ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifier matches during the November break.
Martinez is among 15 United players called up for international duty. He began his journey to South America immediately following his standout performance in the victory over Leicester.
He joins Alejandro Garnacho in the Argentina squad, and both hope to feature for their country against Paraguay on Thursday evening.

When Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho will return
Despite flying separately, both players have faced travel disruptions. While they were scheduled to arrive around noon, their flights were delayed. Martinez took to Instagram and shared a picture with Emiliano Martinez and Romero waiting for another flight. “30 hours and we’re still on a trip,” captioned the post.

Garnacho also faces a delayed arrival in Paraguay. It’s currently uncertain if either player will participate in the Paraguay match on Thursday. Argentina’s second encounter during this break is against Peru on Wednesday, November 20th.
Ruben Amorim’s debut as United manager is just four days following their return. This means that both Garnacho and Martinez are likely to have very little time to rest before rejoining Manchester United.
