CHARLESTON, S.C. — The training camp has underscored the clear frontrunner for a coveted roster spot.
Coach Tom Thibodeau has consistently highlighted Landry Shamet, who is currently on a non-guaranteed contract, as a standout member of the team’s reserves following practices at The Citadel.
Before the regular season begins, the Knicks need to fill at least two roster positions. However, only one of these spots is expected to go to a veteran such as Shamet, given the implications of the luxury tax.

It seems likely that the second roster spot will go to one of the players currently holding a two-way contract, among Jacob Toppin, Ariel Hukporti, or Kevin McCullar Jr.
Anunoby, Josh Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns, McBride, Achiuwa, Payne, Shamet, and Sims.
“I believe it will be an exceptionally strong unit for us,” Thibodeau commented.
The Knicks’ two significant offseason trades demanded the mathematical expertise of team capologist Brock Aller, who has garnered accolades throughout the league for adeptly managing the intricacies of the new CBA and its apron limitations.

“Brock has performed excellently,” stated Thibodeau, who also held the position of team president with the Timberwolves. “The execution of our plan has been impressive. This effort spans five years, focusing on building draft capital while evaluating opportunities step by step and determining feasible actions.”
“It’s challenging, as it involves both immediate and long-term strategies. You need to assess the situation from nearly three different perspectives: the basketball implications, the financial ramifications, and the potential penalties that could arise. Each of these elements requires thorough consideration before arriving at a decision. They’ve truly excelled in this regard.”
According to sources, Aller frequently acts as the Knicks’ representative and negotiator in discussions with agents.
