The report follows the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Kelce, 35, led the NFL in receiving yards for tight ends during the 2024–2025 season, proving his continued top-tier performance.
Kelce’s contract with the Chiefs runs through the 2025 season, including an $11.5 million roster bonus due March 15. The NFL’s free agency period begins March 10.

Patrick Mahomes Gives Travis Kelce Space to Decide Future in NFL
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says he’s giving tight end Travis Kelce time and space to decide whether he wants to retire or return for another season in the NFL.
Mahomes spoke to reporters after their Super Bowl loss, expressing his respect for Kelce’s contributions to the team and the league. “He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL,” Mahomes said. “And he’s been such a joy,not only for me to work with,but for people to watch.”
kelce, himself, has indicated that he’s unsure about his future and needs time to reflect.”Everybody wants to know whether or not I’m playing next year, and right now, I’m just kicking everything down the road. I’m not making any crazy decisions,” he said.
Mahomes emphasized that he wants Kelce to make a fully considered decision if he chooses to play another season. “I’m gonna take some time to figure it out.And, I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, it’s a wholehearted decision.I’m not half-assing it, and I’m fully here for them,” Kelce stated.
While the future remains uncertain for Kelce, both he and Mahomes acknowledged the team made some mistakes during the Super Bowl and intend to learn from them moving forward.
