Kansas Speedway presented a significant challenge for the NASCAR Chevy teams on September 28th, 2024, with Justin Allgaier, a Playoff contender, experiencing particularly tough luck. Driving his No. 7 Chevy Camaro SS, Allgaier lost control while competing against Sheldon Creed’s No. 18 Toyota TRD Supra, and the situation deteriorated from that point forward.
After spinning out, Allgaier’s vehicle collided hard with the inside wall, sustaining considerable damage. His team responded swiftly, attempting to make repairs to the damaged NASCAR Chevy. However, after returning to the track, he suffered a left front tire failure, which propelled him into the outside wall. The resulting damage proved insurmountable, forcing him to retire from the race and accept a disappointing 36th-place finish.
“I can’t recall experiencing a stretch of races quite like these past three or four weeks,” Allgaier remarked. “We’re not out of contention by any means. Clearly, that’s the purpose of putting in all the work to secure bonus points. We have two long weeks ahead of us. I am confident in my team, but we need a bit of luck on our side.”
Rookie Connor Zilisch led the way for The Bow Tie brand at Kansas, achieving a commendable fourth-place finish in the No. 88 NASCAR Chevy Camaro. Following him was Hill in the No. 21 Camaro, who crossed the line in seventh place, while Shane van Gisbergen in the No. 97 Camaro and Jesse Love in the No. 2 Camaro finished ninth and tenth, respectively.
Allgaier’s disappointing performance caused him to drop from first to ninth in the championship standings. Cole Custer, the driver of the No. 00 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, finished in second place and now occupies the top spot in the Playoff standings, closely followed by Chandler Smith and Austin.
