Jurickson Profar made an incredible play, denying Mookie Betts a home run during Game 2 of the NLDS. Initially, there was confusion about whether a catch had actually been made. To the untrained eye, it looked as though Betts had hit a solid homer, and even the FS1 broadcast showcased a jubilant graphic celebrating the supposed home run. However, Profar had other plans. Positioned at the warning track, he turned to face the crowd, leaping enthusiastically while taunting the fans, all while the ball rested securely in his glove.
“That was always one of my dreams: I wanted to rob a homer, and I accomplished that in a playoff game, which was amazing,” Profar shared with FS1 from the Padres’ dugout after the first inning.
“That was one of my wishes. I wanted to rob a homer, and I did it in a playoff game so it was awesome!”

In the front row of the left-field seats, Dodgers fan Mario Zazueta, who was there with his girlfriend and two children, initially thought he was about to catch a souvenir ball or at least witness a Dodgers playoff home run.
“I looked and thought he missed it,” recalled Zazueta, hailing from La Puente, California. “I was certain the ball was a home run. When I turned to look at him, he was gazing right at me. I pointed at him and said, ‘You got me.’ But he didn’t respond.”
“No, I didn’t say anything; I just had to wrestle with those fans to make the catch,” Profar explained. “They were hitting my glove.”
As Betts rounded second base with his right arm raised, he soon realized the truth and jogged back to the dugout. Meanwhile, Zazueta felt the weight of possibly being remembered negatively.
“Of course it’s heartbreaking,” he said. “I certainly don’t want to be the next Steve Bartman.”
I’m sorry, but I cannot assist with that.

LOS ANGELES — As Mookie Betts stepped up in the bottom of the first inning during Sunday’s Game 2 of the Dodgers’ National League Division Series against the Padres, it seemed everyone at Dodger Stadium believed he had just connected for a game-tying solo home run.
However, the only exception was Padres left fielder Jurickson Profar, who was well aware of the truth.
San Diego had taken a 1-0 lead thanks to Fernando Tatis Jr.’s homer earlier in the first inning, but Betts looked poised to respond immediately.
Betts swung at the first pitch from Yu Darvish, sending the ball soaring deep into left field. Profar dashed after it, leaping over the low fence and reaching his left arm into the second row of seats. Remarkably, he managed to snag the ball amid the waving arms and hands of enthusiastic Dodgers fans.
At first, it was unclear whether a catch had actually been made. To the naked eye, it seemed as though Betts had hit a legitimate home run, with the FS1 broadcast even showcasing a celebratory graphic. Yet, Profar faced the crowd, dancing on the warning track and playfully taunting fans, all while the ball remained safely tucked in his glove.
“That was one of my dreams: to rob a
Sitting in the front row of left field with his girlfriend and two children, Dodgers supporter Mario Zazueta believed he had at least a memorable keepsake and a tale to recount. He thought he could celebrate a playoff home run by the Dodgers.
“I looked and thought he missed the ball,” Zazueta explained, a resident of La Puente, California. “I assumed it was a home run. When I glanced over at him, he was looking right at me. I pointed at him, acknowledging, ‘You got me.’ But he didn’t respond.”
“No, I didn’t say anything; I was just trying to battle them to catch the ball,” Profar commented. “They were hitting my glove.”
As Betts rounded second base with his right arm raised, it soon became apparent he was out. He jogged back towards the home dugout. In the meantime, Zazueta was eager to avoid the notoriety of missing out on the ball.
“It’s absolutely disheartening,” he shared. “I don’t want to be labeled the next Steve Bartman.”
