Just two days following Randle’s recognition at the groundbreaking ceremony for a South Bronx high school—attended by the Knicks front office—news broke that he was traded, along with Donte DiVincenzo, for Karl-Anthony Towns.
“It was very emotional. Spending so much time in New York, coming in five years ago with a vision to achieve remarkable things. There was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears dedicated to that organization and uniform,” Randle expressed. “So the initial shock is always there. But the next morning, I woke up feeling just really, really excited. It was a breath of fresh air.”

Randle is also looking forward to reuniting with Minnesota coach Chris Finch, who was an assistant coach during Randle’s time in New Orleans in the 2018-19 season.

“When I parted ways with Finch in New Orleans, I wished he could join me in New York. He’s an exceptional coach. I’ve always regarded him as a genius. He communicates effectively and knows how to maximize his players’ potential,” Randle noted. “I truly believe he expanded my game, helping me become a versatile player. Playing there was the easiest I’ve ever felt in my game. He’s really that remarkable.”
Randle also mentioned that his surgically repaired shoulder “is fine” and that “I’m healthy.” He has the opportunity to become a free agent next summer.
“I want to be here,” Randle affirmed.
Meanwhile, DiVincenzo, who spent just one season with the Knicks, quickly became a fan favorite and hit one of the most significant shots in recent franchise history—a 3-pointer that sealed the victory against the Sixers in Game 2 of the first round.
Despite the arrival of Mikal Bridges, which would likely see DiVincenzo come off the bench next season, a source indicated that he would have accepted that role and did not wish to leave the Knicks.

“When I consider the big picture, I wasn’t focused on which teams had an interest in me. While I was in New York, my energy was fully there. I wanted to be a part of that team. When trade rumors began to circulate, I saw it as an opportunity. And once it became real, my mindset immediately shifted to Minnesota,” DiVincenzo explained. “I expressed my gratitude to everyone from my time in New York. I carry so much love for that place. Precious Achiuwa, likely to be the first frontcourt backup off the Knicks bench, is optimistic about the potential of their defense.
“We can become a powerhouse,” Achiuwa stated on Thursday. “When you have defenders like myself and OG [Anunoby], we can stifle opposing teams. I believe we can rely on our defense to win games.”
