GREEN BAY, Wis. – The practice session on Wednesday did not suggest that Jordan Love would be ready to participate in Sunday’s NFC North clash against the Detroit Lions.
Aside from riding an exercise bike during the stretching phase, Love did not join the practice due to a groin injury he incurred during Sunday’s victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
However, Love’s comments after practice hinted at the possibility of him playing against the first-place Lions (6-1).
“I think it’s realistic,” Love expressed.
He even suggested that he felt capable of competing without engaging in any practice throughout the week.

“Yeah, not practicing throughout the week isn’t the ideal situation for preparing for a game,” he acknowledged. “That said, things happen; if that ends up being the case, I know I’ll manage. But it’s certainly not the best preparation going into a crucial week.”
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur stated merely that they would “take it one day at a time and evaluate his condition by the end of the week,” mentioning that Love could “potentially” play even without practicing.
“He’s showing improvement in his movement,” LaFleur noted. “We’ll continue to evaluate day by day. For sure, we’ll push the limits on that. I know he’s eager to play, but we’ll see how he looks at the week’s end.”
LaFleur would need to have confidence in Love’s ability to protect himself during play.
“For me, it’s mainly about being able to play, maneuver in the pocket, and avoid aggravating the injury,” Love explained. “I think that’s what he’s referring to. Personally, I need to feel capable of moving around and playing naturally instead of just being confined to the pocket without the ability to escape if it becomes necessary.”
Love sustained the groin injury during the initial series against Jacksonville but managed to continue playing through the first half. However, he limped off to the sideline early in the third quarter, ultimately handing the reins to Malik Willis for the remainder of the game.
Although he couldn’t confirm, Love did not dismiss the idea that his current injury might be associated with the left knee sprain he suffered in the season opener, which sidelined him for two games.
Following the game against the Lions, the Packers have a bye week, but this may not influence the decision regarding Love’s participation.
“I’d definitely aim to return as quickly as possible, even with the bye next week,” Love stated.
If Love is unable to play, Willis, who led the Packers to two wins in Weeks 2 and 3 in Love’s absence, orchestrated a game-winning field goal drive against the Jaguars and would assume the starting position again this week.
During Wednesday’s practice, three of the Packers’ five starting offensive linemen — left tackle Rasheed Walker (knee), left guard Elgton Jenkins (glute), and center Josh Myers (wrist) — were unable to participate. Running back Josh Jacobs, who picked up an ankle injury late in the match against Jacksonville, also did not practice.
“I’ll be fine by game time,” Jacobs assured.

Groin injuries are common among athletes, particularly in high-impact sports like football. The groin muscles play a vital role in various movements, including sprinting, cutting, and changing direction. Here’s what you need to know:
Types of Groin Injuries
- Strain: Overstretching or tearing of the muscle fibers.
- Grade I (Mild): Minor strain with minimal pain and swelling.
- Grade II (Moderate): More severe strain resulting in significant discomfort and functional limitations.
- Grade III (Severe): Complete tear of the muscle, often requiring surgery.
Common Symptoms
- Pain in the groin area
- Swelling and bruising
- Tenderness when touching the area
- Difficulty with movements like running or jumping
Jordan Love’s Recovery Process
The recovery process for a groin injury varies based on its severity. Here’s a breakdown of typical treatment protocols:
Initial Treatment Steps
- Rest: Avoiding activities that exacerbate the pain.
- Ice Therapy: Applying ice to reduce swelling for 15-20 minutes several times a day.
- Compression: Using compression wraps to minimize swelling and support the area.
- Elevation: Keeping the injured area elevated to reduce swelling.
Rehabilitation Exercises
Once the acute pain subsides, rehabilitation exercises can be implemented:
- Gentle stretching: To improve flexibility and range of motion.
- Strengthening exercises: Focused on the adductor muscles to prevent future injuries.
