Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor will not be in the lineup for Week 7 due to a high ankle sprain that has been troubling him.
Since his last appearance in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Taylor has not participated in any practice sessions.
“When they mentioned high ankle, I was aware that such injuries typically require four to six weeks for recovery, but I thought to myself, ‘No way,'” Taylor stated on Thursday. “I’m determined to do everything in my power to reduce that recovery time each day.”
On another note, quarterback Anthony Richardson (oblique) will start after missing the last two games.
Marvin Harrison Jr. Cleared from Concussion Protocol
Marvin Harrison Jr. has successfully cleared the concussion protocol and is expected to compete in Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Harrison sustained a concussion in Week 6 and wore a non-contact jersey during this week’s practice. Head coach Jonathan Gannon expressed that it was “really encouraging” to see the rookie back on the field.
During their 34-13 defeat against the Green Bay Packers, quarterback Kyler Murray targeted Harrison with a pass over the middle in the second quarter. The pass was disrupted by Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander, causing Harrison to fall. As he went down, the crown of his helmet collided with linebacker Isaiah McDuffie’s thigh, resulting in his head snapping backward.
Harrison stood up after the impact but appeared to be dazed and subsequently collapsed back to the ground.
He was taken to the sideline medical tent and later left for the locker room escorted by athletic trainers. The Cardinals reported before halftime that he was undergoing concussion evaluation and subsequently ruled him out before the start of the third quarter.
Malik Nabers Set to Return for Giants
The New York Giants welcomed wide receiver Malik Nabers back to practice on Thursday. The rookie was fully involved in practice and later visited an independent neurological consultant, who cleared him from the concussion protocol.
Nabers had sustained a concussion during the Giants’ Week 4 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, causing him to miss the last two games, but he appears ready to join the team in Sunday’s match against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Decision on Cooper Kupp Coming Sunday
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp returned to practice this week for the first time since Week 2. After dealing with a high ankle sprain, he could make his comeback against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Rams head coach Sean McVay indicated that Kupp is questionable, and a decision regarding his participation will be made on Sunday.
Play is anticipated for Sunday morning.
“Should he be ready, we want him to participate; if not, we’re optimistic that Thursday [against Minnesota] will be the day he returns,” McVay mentioned earlier this week.
Below is the updated injury report for Week 7.

Jonathan Taylor to Miss Week 7 with High Ankle Sprain; Injury Updates Across the NFL
As the NFL season progresses, injuries continue to be a significant concern for teams and fantasy football players alike. One of the most notable injuries this week is Indianapolis Colts’ running back Jonathan Taylor, who has been ruled out for Week 7 due to a high ankle sprain. This injury not only affects the Colts’ offensive strategy but also has implications for fantasy football managers who rely on Taylor’s explosive play. Below, we provide comprehensive injury updates across the NFL, focusing on key players and their potential impact on the season.
Jonathan Taylor’s Injury Details
Jonathan Taylor suffered a high ankle sprain during the Colts’ recent game, and medical staff have determined that rest is necessary for recovery. Here are some key details about his injury:
- Injury Type: High Ankle Sprain
- Expected Recovery Time: Minimum of 2-4 weeks
- Impact: Misses Week 7 and potentially more games
High ankle sprains can be particularly troublesome for running backs, as they rely heavily on their agility and speed. This injury may limit Taylor’s ability to plant and cut effectively, which is critical to his playing style. For fantasy football owners, it’s crucial to explore alternatives for the upcoming weeks.
Fantasy Football Implications
With Jonathan Taylor sidelined, the Colts will likely lean on backup running backs to fill the void in their rushing game. Here are some fantasy football implications and potential waiver wire pickups:
- Deon Jackson: Jackson has already taken on a larger role in Taylor’s absence. He is expected to see a significant number of carries and might be a valuable pickup for those in need of running back depth.
- Zack Moss: Moss has shown flashes of potential and could split carries with Jackson, making him another option to consider for fantasy rosters.
Other Significant NFL Injury Updates
In addition to Jonathan Taylor’s situation, several other players across the NFL are facing injuries that could affect their teams’ performance. Here’s a look at some of the most notable injury updates:
Player | Team | Injury | Status for Week 7 |
---|---|---|---|
Saquon Barkley | New York Giants | Hamstring Strain | Out |
Joe Burrow | Cincinnati Bengals | Calf Strain | Questionable |
Christian McCaffrey | San Francisco 49ers | Knee Sprain | Probable |
Davante Adams | Las Vegas Raiders | Shoulder Injury | Out |
Tyreek Hill | Miami Dolphins | Hamstring Tightness | Probable |
Player-Specific Injury Analysis
Let’s delve deeper into the implications of these injuries:
Saquon Barkley
Saquon Barkley’s hamstring strain has sidelined him for an extended period. Fantasy owners are likely looking for alternative running backs as the Giants’ offense struggles without their star player. The team’s reliance on other options, like Matt Breida, could make or break this week’s fantasy matchups.
Joe Burrow
Joe Burrow’s calf strain has raised concerns about his mobility and performance. If he’s unable to play, the Bengals may turn to backup players, impacting the entire offensive unit. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his status leading up to game day.
Christian McCaffrey
Christian McCaffrey’s knee sprain is less severe than initially feared, and his probable status for Week 7 is encouraging. As a top-tier fantasy asset, his presence in the lineup is crucial for both the 49ers and fantasy teams alike.
Davante Adams
Davante Adams’ shoulder injury will keep him out for Week 7, creating opportunities for other receivers on the Raiders’ roster. This could be an excellent time for players like Jakobi Meyers to step up, making them worth considering for fantasy lineups.
Tyreek Hill
Despite Tyreek Hill’s hamstring tightness, his probable status suggests he may still play. His explosive speed and playmaking ability make him a vital asset for the Dolphins’ offense and a must-start option for fantasy managers.
Benefits of Staying Updated on NFL Injuries
Monitoring injury updates is crucial for NFL fans and fantasy football players for several reasons:
- Informed Decision Making: Staying updated helps fans and managers make better decisions regarding player lineups and trades.
- Spotting Opportunities: Injuries create opportunities for lesser-known players to shine, which can be leveraged in fantasy leagues.
- Understanding Team Dynamics: Knowing which players are sidelined can provide insights into a team’s potential performance and strategies.
Practical Tips for Managing Fantasy Teams Amid Injuries
Dealing with injuries is an inevitable part of the NFL season. Here are some practical tips for managing your fantasy team effectively:
- Monitor News Daily: Keep checking reputable sports news outlets for the latest injury updates.
- Utilize Depth Charts: Familiarize yourself with each team’s depth chart to identify potential players who may step up.
- Make Strategic Waiver Moves: Use your waiver wire to grab emerging players before others do, especially those stepping in for injured stars.
- Trade Wisely: If you have depth in a position where others are struggling, consider trading to strengthen your team during injury periods.
Case Studies: Previous NFL Injuries and Their Impact
Examining previous seasons can provide insights into how injuries can affect teams:
Case Study 1: Ezekiel Elliott’s Knee Injury in 2021
During the 2021 season, Ezekiel Elliott faced a knee injury that limited his effectiveness. The Dallas Cowboys struggled to maintain their offensive rhythm without a fully functional Elliott, leading to a late-season slump. Backup Tony Pollard saw increased usage, showcasing how backups can rise to the occasion in the face of injuries.
Case Study 2: Derrick Henry’s Foot Injury in 2021
Derrick Henry suffered a significant foot injury in 2021, which sidelined him for a substantial part of the season. His absence drastically affected the Tennessee Titans’ rushing attack and overall offensive output. This situation exemplified the importance of having capable backups and adequate depth on a roster.
First-Hand Experience
As a fantasy football manager, experiencing injuries can be frustrating but also a learning opportunity. In a previous season, I faced a similar situation when my starting quarterback went down with an injury. By quickly adapting and picking up a reliable backup, I not only salvaged my season but learned the importance of being proactive and flexible.
Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, but staying informed and prepared can make all the difference for fans and fantasy players alike.
